The End of Courtship? ∞
My friend Marcus and I are moving balls-to-the-wall on what we think is the next big thing to change dating. That's part of the reason I am not writing much here any longer. I'm lucky I squeezed out this minor redesign. I have spent every waking hour on this project.
Meanwhile, I am constantly on the prowl for more data on the current dating ecosystem. This article from the NY Times does a pretty good job articulating the current state of affairs, and gives some of the reasons why.
Online dating services, which have gained mainstream acceptance, reinforce the hyper-casual approach by greatly expanding the number of potential dates. Faced with a never-ending stream of singles to choose from, many feel a sense of “FOMO” (fear of missing out), so they opt for a speed-dating approach — cycle through lots of suitors quickly.
