So some guy tries to set off a bomb he smuggled onto the plane in the last hour of flight. Now everyone pays the price, which means no one can use any electronic devices during the last hour of flight and onboard maps are disabled on planes.

So apparently this terrorist was trying to blow the plane up just enough, to a point where it was a big burning ball of metal flying down at whatever capitalist establishment the terrorist wasn't happy with down on the ground. I understand their solution is to try and "confuse" terrorists by not giving them knowledge of the where the plane was, so they wouldn't know when to blow up their bomb and set the plane on it's collision course.

So this terrorist spends his entire life being taught ideologies that America and our way of life is bad, building up a hatred and resentment so deep that scientists could find it in his bones. He decides he wants to die for what is right (his idea of right, anyway) so he and his buddies go shopping for lots of chemicals and electronics (prime shipping on Amazon!) to build a bomb. They then assemble some kind of device that can somehow get through a security system that flags small bottles of head and shoulders as dangerous, while still being able to turn a 250,000 pound metal beast into a firey meteor.

Somehow this said terrorist, after building such an elaborate device and sneaking it so far through our world class security systems, is going to rely on the flight attendants telling them when to set off their device? Are you kidding? If i'm Johnny Bin Quedaban I have a tiny little Timex watch on my left wrist that tells me exactly how far into the flight I need to push the button. I know exactly how long it's going to take the specific plane i'm on to fly to it's destination, and I know exactly when I'm above my target.

Disallowing use of iPods and ebook readers, laptops, and really any electronic device is an absolute joke. We're punishing everyone and we're not even solving or preventing the problem. The only thing that these rules do is prevent things like multiple attacks at once, and if our buddy Johnny Bin Quedaban and his buddies were gonna hit us a bunch of times at once they'd do it at once not a few days apart.
